I've been setting up my girlfriend's new laptop, and at first (as far as i can remember) the optical drive was working fine. I then uninstalled the roxio burning software sony had provided and installed nero 7. now the optical drive, a matshita dvd-ram UJ-852S, no longer shows up in Computer, and disks are not autoplayed.

The drive does show up in the device manager with a yellow triangle on it, saying that "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware," but when i try to update the driver i'm told that i already have the most up-to-date version available.

this once happened to me on win xp, but i can't remember how i fixed it...

any ideas? this is really aggravating, and i'd rather not have to take the laptop back to compusa to have them reinstalled vista (the laptop was the last of this model in the store and was a display model, so it didn't come with a recovery disk)

thanks in advance

This just happened tome last wek. Turns out to be fairly common, and there is a Microsoft KB on it. The fix is in the Registry. I did it and it worked.
