Alright here's my dilemna... right now, I currently have a PS2 and a DVD player. Both have Optical outs on them, and my reciever has a single optical in on it. Is there any way in hell, that I can put both of them into the reciever, without having to change the cable every time I want to use one? (would a splitter such as THIS work at combining the signal?)

never seen a toslink splitter before, but i assume it *should* be ok, as stated above. it's really you're only option, unless you can use a coaxial digital out from the dvd player??? and keep the optical purely for the ps2?

I would have choosen that course of action, however the DVD player is a bit old and only has an optical out as well. Too bad I'll have to wait for it. Doubt any stores around me would carry the splitter.

does your receiver have a coaxial digital input? If so, you could get an optical to coaxial converter, I got one becuase I had the same dilemma as you, and it works GREAT. Mine was around 30 bucks, and I forgot what brand it is or where I bought it. My problem was:

Compter Output : Coaxial
DVD Player Output: Optical
Sony CD Changer Output: Optical

and I have 2 coaxial and 1 optical input on my Sony STR-DB840 receiver. So I bought the converter and hooked it up to the dvd player, and it works perfect, I still get full DTS and Dolby Digital Sound.

yeah, it does have the coax digital input, but then i'd have the same issue in a different form :) (i've got the digital-out of my cablebox goin in there). So may as well try this way... hopefully if it doesnt work, the Shack will take it back.

Of course with the splitter you'll probably have to turn one device completely off when you're using the other.
