Opteron technology driver?

I just installed my new opteron 170 to replace my old 3000+. It seems by reading the forums that I don't need any drivers, but I came across this on the amd site - has anyone tried it?:

AMD Tech driver

AMD Opteron? Processor with AMD PowerNow!? Technology Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 - Allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, voltage and power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. Download this Setup Installation program (EXE) to automatically update all the files necessary for installation. This package is recommended for users whom desire a graphical user interface for installation. This .EXE driver is a user friendly localized software installation of the driver designed for end-users. This driver supports Single- and Dual-Core AMD Opteron? processors on Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 SP1 x84 and x64 Editions.

Sure u r right!!
But the thing is; Basically processor is a PnP device. U dont need driver. In addition if u need addition 2 execution task frm pro., u have 2 install that spacific tech.'s driver. That is common procedure.

It's just the C&Q driver. It's the exact same driver installer as the A64s and X2 use. It is required if you want to use Cool and Quiet on XP. You also might want to install the dual-core hotfix from the AMD site also.

You should consider the chip an X2 for driver downloading purposes on AMD's website. 939 Opterons are functionally equivalent to 1MB cache/core X2s.

The dual-core optimizer fixes some timing issues that improperly coded applications have with the X2 chips. The AMD CPU Driver is for enabling Cool and Quiet.

Thanks all - I found lots of old / new info at xtremesystems.org started in 2005, but not sure if there's a more current procedure - like just install the amd version of the dualcore optimizer and be done with it or also install the MS version and regedit and change the boot.ini yadda yadda

cheers
