what mobo's will opteron run on? Sounds like a goofy question but the board I am looking at say it will run A64/FX/X2 but not a mention of opteron's it is an ASUS A8N-E... thanks for the answer and try not to laugh too hard!!
 
All Nforce4 board will run A64/FX/X2 but not all will run/support opteron. There are even some manufacturers out there who do not wish to support enthusiast who wishes to use Opteron chip on their board. DFI is on example and it's even listed on http://www.dfi-street.com on this http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26642 that DFI do not officially support Opterons and will not provide any technical support regarding troubleshooting while using the newer socket 939 Opteron chips.
