surprised to see the 3.06 Xeons and 1.8 Opterons fight it out.
I was expecting higher clocks, but i can see why they lauched similar proformance now. They are only trying to get into Xeons market, and they know that if they do up the proformance, intel will just put out something faster. The faster that these companies launch products the less money they make (more r&d). This is similarly shown with ati supposedly turning to 18-24 month product cycles with 6 month refreshes. So given that, i am not impressed by todays launch, i am glad that amd has a new market base to eat into, and i think they will be very successful. Architectually, the opteron is far more superior than the xeon, good step forward for the industry. amd will release faster chips as needed, but to expect it out of the gates is foolish. I think it is impressive that a processor is able to keep up with something almost twice its speed. Congrats amd.
