$9.00 Dollars more and come with heatsink, and 100MHZ higher clock and 3 year warranty.

shipping on the 1354 Budapest is $6.00

so not really hot deal, just a regular price.

well the 9600 is a B2 step with the tlb bug so its not exactly a fair comparison.

the 1356 oem is basically a 9650...and its $99 with free shipping. I don't think its worth $19 more, so the 1354 is still probably the best deal for a quad on newegg.

I couldn't seem to find any board that suggested it handled the Opteron that wasn't a server class board. I remember buying a 939 Opteron back in the day and not having a problem. Anyone know how these ones do on regular desktop MBs?

I have tried it successfully on three AM2+ desktop PC motherboards - Its an AM2+ Phenom, remember; the boards in question were:

GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD

Foxconn A76ML-K AM3 Ready / AM2+ / AM2 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD

Foxconn A7GM-S 1.0 AM2+ AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD

CPU-Z V1.49 sees it as a Phenom in the Name field, and as an Opteron in the Specification Field. PCWizard 2008 sees it as a Phenom. The Bios on my Foxconn A7GM-S sees it as an Opteron.

Thanks Delta... I was considering purchasing one of these for a ESXi box I put together, but ended up scrapping together some used parts from the boards here and ended up with a C2D E6600 as I wasn't completely sure that it'd work on a non-server board. More thinking to do I guess. 🙂

Understood, It would be interesting if Anandtech, with their wide range of resources, decided to do an article on this CPU, to see which boards would accept it; it does seem as if most AM2+ boards would . . .

Certainly would be nice... I tried to find such info on the google but couldn't come across it. Decided to just find a good cheap used CPU instead. Had I known then what you've told me now, I'd have a Quad core ESXi server instead of a Dual. 🙁

I have a 9550 quad in my pc with a 4850, and 2 gigs o ram, pc800, and it plays everything perfect. DiRT, GRiD, Jericho, pretty much all my games will run at my monitors max res with everything set to max, without going under 25fps all to much or ever. Great basic pc, for those on a budget and want one to do it all, game, internerds,HD, video edit, cant really go to wrong with this cpu since its pretty much the same as I got.
