Opteron 939 vs. Athlon 64

I know it overclocks further with less voltage than the venices but aren't the opterons designed for servers, therefore not as well suited for gaming? I realize a lot of this is hype right now, but I have to ask the question.

Torn between the 3200+ and an opteron 146

thanks for the input

They're almost the exact same chip, so they are equally good for gaming (well, the Opteron has a bigger cache so is probably slightly faster), but basically an Opteron core is the same as the core used in a 3700+ or 4000+ or an FX (1MB cache chips), so it will be just as suited to gaming as the FX chips.

doesn't the 146 have a 9x multiplier? go with the 3200 with the 10x multiplier of you don't have the greatest overclocking motherboard.

i think 144 is 9x and 146 is 10x. that would make sence if it was the same frequency as the 3200+, which it is.

i believe hyper's right,but im going epox ep-9npa w/ 6800 gt or gs.
some guy said the opty's didnt like tccd as much as bh-5 but no real evidence

do u guys think my board will limit oc? - i refuse 2 go with DFI since im not oc'ing over 2.8 for sure
