Anybody know the release date for these? What about the price range? Will the 844 be paper launched like the 244 is?

Not to turn this into a AMD/Intel thread, but I have a comment that always bothers me on reviews like that one. I find it silly that they compare a not yet released top end processor from one company to the middle of the line processor from the other company. To me it would be so much more informative to compare the 844 to the 2.8 GHz Xeon MP (instead of the 1.6 GHz one they used) since they will likely be released about the same date.

All that review did was make me want a quad rig even more.

It mentioned that the unit price for the Opteron 840 chips is $307. That's not too much more than the 240's.

Anyone care to guess when (or if) a quad motherboard with the AGP bridge will appear?

Maybe I'm blind but where does it say that? I see the 24x level Opteron prices, but not the 84x level prices.

How interesting. It uses PAE under a 32bit windows OS.

How about never? Or at least not anytime soon.

First off, $307 is the 240 pricing, not 840. Guessing at a $100 price hike for the 840, that would be $1600 for CPU's alone, plus the board will run another $1800-2000 or more, plus another $1500 for 2000 Advanced Server. $5000 (probably a low estimate) for only the board, CPU's, and OS? No thanx.
