Opteron 175

Ok guys with all of the talk about the opti I went ahead and bit the bullet this afternoon. I ordered an oem 175 from monarch with their $15 3 year extended warranty. It's supposed to be an E6 stepping and hopefully it will turn out alright. I'm not a big ocer however I do want a performance improvement over my winnie 3500. I also ordered a evga 7800gt co to go along with it. I'm going to pass along my 6800gt to my youngest son since I'm moving him to 64 bit. I'm going to put my old k8n neo4 plat in his machine along with the winnie.

Thats just a lot of puff n stuff those k8n's were a lot of smoke if you ask me. As far as 64 bit they might as well have called it a 128 bit its not much improvement over anything else on the market. I can see why your moving away from msi junk for sure.

Hopefully what ever you get it will work out far better then that k8n. I bet you had to rma that a few times too.

Good Luck!

What were you getting out of your winny? I could only get stable at 2640 and my first opty 175 @ 2655 so not much of a clock improvement but the dual core makes a big difference.

I never tried to oc it so I couldn't tell you what it is capable of. I also ordered some corsair twinx 3500LL pro 1gbx2 kit with the pretty led indicators on it and I'm going to pass my hyper-x to my son along with the other stuff.

One of my favorite things about x2 is being able to preempt the wait for operations gone wrong by using one instruction to stop another. 'Core 1, go kill Core 2'. Like a task manager on steroids.
