I'm building a rig primarily for gaming, should I use the Denmark or Toledo CPU?

I realize that single cores give you more bang for the buck when it comes to gaming, but I like the idea of being able to do a lot of things in the background while gaming and furthermore I want to be able to take advantage of multithreaded games etc. I also have a quite flexible budget, that's why I'm considering the Opteron, but I didn't know if they're as good at gaming as the more mainstream x2's...

virtually the same core. Get the cheapest of the two and OC. Opteron would be my first choice though.

Ditto here. And I am lucky to have gotten an Opty 165 before everyone ran out.

I remember when the Opteron came out so many years ago (well, not that many, lol), I said "damn, I want to have a system with an Opteron, since the name is so cool"...

I know this is offtopic, but it is to do with Opterons :) Can you get S939 Dual processor motherboards. Iv been looking, and so far i have only found S940 SMP boards. mmmmmm, imagine two 175's running in an SMP system :D

No, Socket 939 CPUs have zero coherent HTT links, which makes multiple socket SMP impossible. For that you need Socket 940, which is far more expensive all the way around.
