Opteron 170 or 175?

Im trying to decide on whether to get the 170 or 175. The 175 is about 60 bucks more than the 170. The 170 runs at 2.0 and the 175 runs at 2.2.

Do you think its possible to safely push the 170 to 2.4? Im still new to the overclocking scene so help me out. I assume that the 175 would OC to 2.4 effectively making it a 180 just as the 170 would OC to 2.2 effectively making it a 175.

What do you think?

You should be able to take both the 170 and 175 to 2.4 ghz easily, provided your PSU and motherboard are up to the task. Hell, even the 165 can get that far reliably. Whether or not you can get past 2.5 ghz is the main question.

Go for the 170 if you plan to OC. What motherboard and PSU are you using? And what cooling are you using?

Im going to get an Asus A8N32 mobo (I think NCIX actually has some but I haven't ever ordered from them so I am kind of leery about them. Im holding out for Newegg to get some). I will be using a Turbine Power 550 Watt PSU, and a Zalman CNPS9500 heatsink (92mm).

Im not really ready to take the plunge into water cooling just yet so thats why I was wondering if I should just slam the extra 60 or so bucks down to get the 175. That way Id only be pushing it 200MHz instead of the 400MHz of the 170.

You could get the 165 to 2.4 ghz easily, so if you're looking at the 170 seriously, get it. Btw, why a Turbine Power PSU? I've never even heard of those guys. The rest of your parts sound good, but uh, is that an el-cheapo brand or a new player in the quality PSU market?

From what I've read, the TP 550 is actually a snazzy PSU. Modular, 18A/20A on the 12v lines, cool, quiet, and they look neat. They're not cheap, though, and in that price range I would still rather have a seasonic, but they do not seem like "cheap" PSUs at all.
