Newegg has the Opteron 165 retail for $325 while the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ runs $463. Is the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ worth the extra $138? The only difference I can see is the L1 cache, but some sites have them both listed as the same.

Thanks!

The Opteron 165 runs at 1.8GHz. The X2 4400+ runs at 2.2GHz. However, I would recommend the Opteron 165 because you should be able to overclock it to 2.2GHz easy, and not have to spend the extra $138.

The opteron 165 seems to be one of the better overclocking dual core chips, if you want to overclock then definately go for the 165, but make sure you get a good overclocking board that will do high HTT. However if your not into overclocking the 4400+ would be well worth the extra

I would recommend buying the Opty 165 from www.tankguys.biz if you end up deciding to go for it. Great price, great service, and you know what stepping you're getting beforehand.
