Opteron 165 discontinued?

Speculation from Zebos thread on the 165 states that the Opteron 165 line was discontinued. One user claimed to have called AMD and recieved confimation that it was a discontinued product. So my real question is, I have a 165 on backorder from Monarch. Monarch states that the ETA for new Opteron 165s is early December. Now I know that no one knows for sure, but do you suspect that Monarch actually is recieving one last shipment, or that they will soon update the site and cancel everyones orders? Any ideas?

That's unlikely unless thier production line has improved so much that all the chips can pass testing for 2.0GHz, ih which case prices will drop, and they'd introduce an Opteron 185

Or #2
They realize that the 165 is the hottest thing around, so they are taking it away hoping people buy more Opteron 170s, thus increasing revenue.

CPUs being sold today were made weeks ago. I guess it will take a while to empty the pipelines.
As time passes it should be more difficult to get it.

I hope this is a rumour, I'm still weighing up between the 165 and the X2 3800+
Anyone ran the 165 in the A8N -SLI Premium?

Well I called Monarch today regarding my backordered Opteron 165. The rep told me that they are expecing several new shipments, and told me that I would recieve the product. I asked him if AMD had discontinued the Opteron 165, and he told me that it was not discontinued, but rather AMD was having some "problems."

I suspect those "problems" may have something to do with AMD noticing a sudden drop in demand for their X2s and higher-priced A64s as people rushed to grab 165s and 146s.

That may be it. I doubt people have stopped buying X2s though, and there's still the OEMs, so I dont know how much we have caused demand on the X2s to drop.

I just order one (the 165) from Monarch last nights and it showed as in stock for the OEM version.

Call Monarch to make sure it is actually in stock. From what I hear, they are; but I ordered a DFI Ultra-D last week and they hadn't had any in at all (and still don't last I heard).

I've got 15 coming in Monday :)

Still some available, if Monarch can't get them to you sooner. I think thier price is lower though, so if they can get them and you can wait, go for it. If you can't wait or they can't get them though, we can get you one.

Damn, I wanted to get one through Newegg (I have a $100 credit with them) but they don't even list them anymore!

Poop!

I was told by AMD they are discontinued. Maybe they just don't have any plans to move the 165s to canada for a while.
