I'd get a AMD X2 4200 for $184.99 shipped over this anyday.

1. From Club IT about 50x more reliable than monarch
2. Has much better multipliers to work with, up to 11 vs 9.
3. 400Mhz faster stock speed.
4. Cache makes zero differce in benchmarks/performance.
5. Runs cooler and uses less power because of less cache
6. Comes with 3 yrs warranty and a nice HSF
7. All My 1MB cache chips clocked higher. Both 3800s to 3Ghz. My 165 and 170 2GB Chips never got close.

I'm in too. 🙂

Damn, I'm a sucker for a deal. Picked up one of those Asus A8N-SLI boards from MicroCenter a while back and now this. Going to use my existing Crucial Ballistic RAM and XP-120 cooler and have a go with this thing. What's a realistic overclock and how much voltage can the cpu tolerate?

My total upgrade cost stands at $46.37 (A8N-SLI) and $155.79 (Opteron 165) = $202.16.
Not bad but I could have bought one of those Fry's ECS-Conroe 6300 combos for $195 or so which, I think, would be faster out of the box. Oh well.

Factor in tax and it's 33% more cost.

And all the good 939 server boards only take Opterons. This price drop makes the 165 the new budget server king. Even a "Xeon 3000" rig would cost $150 more.

I like how you spun having less cache into a win on two points though. LOL.

I was answering someone above who asked 4200 vs. 165 for him. In general I'd get the $150 3800...still faster and cooler😛

But you can run all of your programs in the 2GB cache and never touches the ram...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. 😉 Thanks for sharing...

up to 238 now... bastages

edit: oh retail is still $190 though..

something's screwy when the oem part is more expensive than retail...

The 148 (im at 3+Ghz) are known for their oc potential. But I am sure these will do just fine. TO bad the price is up, I would have snagged one for my daughters little rig.

Ordered this morning at $164.99, not as good as original deal but still great compared to E and ZZ also ordered ArticPro 64 same price as posted in earlier deal. Will see what happens.

Dont buy from Monarch because you'll never get it. It took me one month to get my combo, and by that time the price of the things I ordered dropped by 40 bucks.(i had to bitch and moan at them to get that refund). The whole ordeal was a nightmare. I really don't know how or why the could be sucking so bad lately after all of these good years.

Monarch now has them back in stock - $146. Get em while they last - they had none 2 hrs ago.

PS this is for the OEM version, not retail. They now appear to be out of stock.

Do you have a link, b/c I don't see it?
Thanks.

Look like it was in stock only for a few minutes at Monarch... they only have the more expensive retail available....

The $150 is for OEM. Good for some. Mwave has the retail for $163 but OOS (probably will get more)

I wont do business with Monarch so I'm going to go for the 170 @ Mwave for $190 retail Thanks for the bump
