Opteron 150 or X2 4800+

Given the choice between
AMD Opteron 150 Processor 2.4GHz 1M Cache (Socket 939)
and
AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual-Core 4800+ Processor (Socket 939)

given no overclocking what would you go with? my rig is listed below... it's got a 485 Enermax as a power supply... will that be enough?

 
Jeez, I'm glad you decided to ask before going for the Opteron. Opterons from 165 and up are dual-cores, those under are single cores. Like Keeleysam said, the 4800+ is what you want.
 
So given the choice between a 4400, 4600 and 4800 what would you get... I guess I'm just wondering if there were any issues with the 4800s that anyone knows of.
 
get the one that fits well in your budget...you should probably want to stay away from the 4600 since it has 512k of L2, unless you're going AM2 but i doubt it.

I'd avoid the 4800X2 as the cache makes very little to no difference for the price premium.
 
i have a denmark 170, you might want to invest in a new power supply if you get a dual core. i recommend OCZ check out the link. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817341002 because it is dual core you need a dual +5v rail line (2 - 4pins lines, check your current power supply, i dont think you have it) the socket 939 Opterons are not on sale so stay away from them, good processors but you have to remember that 939 is being discontinued so why invest alot of cash. what you should do is OverClock to get the most from your system and starts with a quality mothrboard. But you listed some specific choices so here is my answer..........I would say the 4800 to your original question......for the other question i would go with 4800. But i would choose to go with the 3800 on the cheap. check all around for best prices.....even wait a whole month if you have too. Check out some of these E-tailors.

With the emphasis on can. Some apps and games get a decent boost (~5%) from the additional 512k L2 per core. Other don't. But for a single architecture, clock speed is usually king (part of the reward of overclocking). In the end, it'll depend on the buyer's value judgement of price/performance.
 
well personally, i dont think you would see a difference in cache either by 2x512kb or 2x1MB. your current 3500+ has 512kb of cache (i think), so ANY athlon X2 would be good for you. i'd either get a X2 4200+ or a X2 4400+. your choice. if you want to save even more money, an X2 3800+ is good then.

Source for this? I checked the THG benchmarks chart and the difference is pretty much 3% accros the board for gaming. That sort of performance increase does not qualify as major to me.
