Hey new to overclocking and looking to upgrade my current system...and i need some help picking out a few components.
After reading all about the 939 Opterons, i finally decided on a 148 as the cpu for my new system. I plan to use my current ram, case, hdd, and hopefully PSU. So my question is what would be the best mobo, video card, and psu to get (if current is not good enough).
Im not looking for too much performance (at least better than what i have now) and would like to get a decent overclock on my 148.
The evga 7800gt w/ free MOBO seemed intruiging, but i am confused on what to get after reading different oppinions.

My budget for the remaining parts is around 500$ (i will upgrade the video card later if needed)

Thanks.

if you decide to keep your AGP video card then I would go with either AsRock 939 Dual or MSI Neo2-F. It will give you a decent overclock per se. Just type in the motherboard names mentioned above for details of how-tos etc. Both Boards can be had for less than 100 bucks each. Then if you want to go like everyone else's, you need an Nvidia Nforce4 boards as well as PCIe video card(s) (just incase you want SLI/Crossfire performance) or you can get Nforce 6100/6150 Micro ATX boards that comes with DX9 compatible onboard graphics chip as well as PCIe X16 slot for future card upgrade. Of course, gaming and overclocking is going to take a hit with onboard graphics but you get the idea.

Next up is your Powersupply. You need at least a good 450Watt power supply that has ATX 2.01 compatible plug on it. Most of ATX 2.01 compatible power supply comes with a "breakaway" 20+4 power plug on where you can still use old motherboard 20-pin as well as be upgradeable for future 24 plug only board for the future. If you want SLI/Crossfire in the future then you want PSU that's compatible with that also. SLI compatible PSU are easy to find nowadays but expect to spend at least 150 bucks for it depending on size.

That leaves you with:
100 m/b
150 Psu
250 for decent video card.

decent video card list:
7800GS
X800GTO "squared"
6800GS

everything else would be well above your 250 bucks budget.

well im looking for better performance, so if iam using basically the same parts except for the cpu, i wont see much of an increase will i?
So i was thinking of using a DFI Ultra D or SLI DR, 6600gt, now all thats left is the PSU, which i cant decide on.

well due to a forgotten ebay auction, my list is now:
AMD Opty 148 CAB2E
DFI Ultra Sli DR
1gig HyperX 3500
Coolermaster Caviler

I just need a PSU and Video card. I will most likely get the OCZ PS 520, but still cant figure out if a 7800gt is worth the extra dough. I play a decent amount of games but nothing to insane, so i dunno what would be my best value for a VC. I was also thinking of the 6600 reviewd at tomshardware but dont know if that will be better than my 9600xt. Anyone know about that card?
