Right now I currently have a single core 146 Opteron on my 939 system, this runs stock at 2.0 ghz and is overclocked to 2.7 ghz. I'm thinking about upgrading to a dual core 939, either the 165 or the 170 but most likely the 170 so I have the 10x multiplier. Am I going to see any substantial differences? Worth the 100-115$? I figure I will be able to get the 170 up to 2.7 ghz no problem so the only real difference in the two processers is the second core. Any and all opinions are welcome

sure I think the 165/170 gonna get ya a healthy boost. But if it cost too much I'd think about say a more complete upgrade to E2xxx or X2s on AM2 boards.

Yes :) Good choice. You can also look for certain 939 X2s, or I would go with the 170 for the easier multiplier.

i would do it...you can an extra core plus 2x1MB cache (not sure if the single core opterons have 2x1MB cache as well).

I think it depends on the rest of your system. If you have 2GB of DDR1 and a PCIe based motherboard, then definitely do the upgrade. If you have something AGP based with 1GB or less I don't think it's worthwhile investing more money in a dead platform.

I wouldn't

I was in the same spot as you, but with a 144, either jump to AM2 or Intel

Save up.
