Well I decided to bite the bullet and ordered the new 90nm s939 Opteron. But now I have to choose a new motherboard also.I read that these are just supposed to be rebadged San Diego cores and so should be able to boot up in any new s939 motherboard.Anyone know if this is correct? Or have a mobo suggestion? Has to be Agp and I know the new Asrock works with these chips but I'm leaning towards MSI neo2-F for voltage/overclocking options.HELP!!

Why the hell would you want a opteron 144? = 1.8 gHz, you'd get helluva better performance with a AThlon 64 or X2? what is your motivation for buying a socket 939 opteron anyway?

it should at least hit 2.5/2.6, for the 20 bucks more the cache is probably worth it for bragging points

Yeah I was waffling between the 3000 or 3200 for 10x multi and this came up and thought I would take a chance on how well these will clock. A few peeps in Japan have had them up to 3.0-3.2 on air! Guy at extreme has his watercooled up to 2.9+ so far. BUT I am a relative newcomer to overclocking so me thinks if I could hit 2.5-2.7 that would be great until I gain more knowledge.

But I still need to know if the darn thing will boot up in the Neo2-F!! I checked msi site and they had every other proccessor working in it but nothing about opty.:(

They have the 144,146,148,150 etc. models up to 2.8 but they are OEM- the same models but the boxed versions are coming and listed on site but not in stock yet.

Never have bought anything from this place before- they seem legit- called me back to tell me that the CPU was an OEM version and if I wanted to cancel my order because of that or not. I'm going with the TT Big Typhoon so all is good. But you might want to do your own research on this place, as they are news to me.

Well just got the E-mail that the chips are suddenly out of stock.:|

So canceled my order and back to debating on 3000 versus X2 3800 until newegg has the s939 opty's in.

Just be patient. s939 Opterons should start to show up in retail channels next week. Hopefully.

That's what a few e-tailers have told me via email. So, take that for what it's worth.

What are you hearing, Furen?

Yeah I hope so- I was(am) hoping to get the same week/stepping as team Japan and the extreme guys have been getting.

How has the Newark been treating ya? They have my interest also but the 3000 and 3200 models never seem to show up in retail.

Gotta love the Newark. I had hoped to get the holy grail of 3GHz out of it, but I'm happy with what I got in my sig.

That's cool- I'm relatively new to the O/Cing scene and would be happy with 2.7-2.8+ out of either that or the opty. I was hoping to go with an X2 but my cashflow is telling me otherwise at the moment. That's why these are so appealing(obviously).

Found the links by Froogle. Never heard of the sellers though.

I've heard one of those sellers is pretty good though ;)

On a serious note, we don't have an ETA on these yet, but holy cow are they popular!

I'm thinking about it actually. It's funny, because if I offer you guys a deal, in a way, that would be incredibly stupid business sense. Really, I'm not going to have any trouble moving them at the regular price.

On the other hand, I appreciate your support, and I appreciate AT letting us post here; so it's nice to "give back" when I can. Plus, it's nice to build some customer loyalty and get the name out so to speak.

Honestly, part of it is going to hinge on some 3800's we got stuck with today. We got a big shipment in, and much to our horror, not a single one was a Toledo :( I had to call some customers tonight and offer to refund thier money on pre-orders, or cut them a nice rebate to compensate for the incorrect core. In any case, depending on how quickly I can move the Manchesters I'm sitting on, and how much I have to under-cut them, will help determine what kind of deal I can give you guys.

Consider that if I give you guys a $5 discount coupon, ala the one we ran for our 3800's, that means we come very close to losing money on the deal, so I have to use them sparingly. You know, at some point, I'd like to actually turn a profit :)

Anyway I'll keep you guys posted for sure. I'll know by the end of the week hopefully.
