I'm running my Opteron 144 @ 2.8ghz on an SLI Infinity with an EVGA 7900GT KO SC

I want to get a dual-core CPU for better multi-tasking and am looking at the Opteron 165 which is the same speed/OC potential but with two cores.

Is it worth the about $320 it is, or is one of the cheaper X2's with less cache a better bet ( As long as I can OC and get the same approximate performance as the 165)

Any thoughts?

And I'm not looking at Conroe or need any comments about Intel cpus, thanks.

My thoughts? You are narrow minded.

Edit
My apologies for the knee jerk response. Got caught up in the fanboism of the the threads I read just prior to this one.

Enjoy.

X2 3800+ get's my vote, shouldn't be too far off 2.8GHz once heavily overclocked, much cheaper than an Opty 165.

I appreciate the apology.

But I posted the way I did, because I'm not looking to spend money on a new mainboard PLUS DDR2 memory.

Explain what you mean by multi-tasking.

There is nothing wrong with your 144 @ 2.8Ghz. It's one of the fastest gaming cpus you can run.
