Hi there, long time lurker. Recently bought a 900p, managed to get it booting and working on z87, and upon first few weeks of use it was very snappy and I could feel a difference compared to my ssd 750. Crystal disk mark looked good, but never as high as what was shown in all reviews, more like half or less in fact ( about 150 for 4k 1T). Always made me wonder how fast it really should be. Fast forwards two months, I've got myself a 2700x and x470 mobo. Now it's gone down to 80 mb/s for 4K transfers and I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my drive? Sequentials seem to be around 1.5gbps reads and writes, but everything random seems to have taken a huge hit ( or rather has never been close to as high as what every reviewer was having) am I doing something wrong too? Win10 insider build slow ring for RS2, ssd mounted on pcie 3x8 slot to make sure it's getting lanes from cpu. Tested with Microsoft nvme drivers, Intel older version nvme driver pre meltdown (gave about 15% faster speeds on z87), newest Intel nvme driver (same speed as default Microsoft now). Any ideas? I should also mention that the drives performance today is reminiscent of my old 830 pro, losing its snappiness even without the drive filled up. (Which I think shouldn't impact optane..?)

Sounds like a driver issue, but you are not making yourself clear. Why do you mention about the Intel NVMe driver when you have a Ryzen system now?

There's also a PCPer test done and they said the RAIDXpert driver adds 10-30us latency. On Optane, that'll double, or even quadruple the latency and the merit of getting an Optane drive is mostly nullified.

On sequentials you should be getting 2-2.5GB/s, not 1.5GB/s, so even that's low too.

It may also have to do with you running the Windows 10 Insider Build. How does it perform in a regular build with all the updates using a fresh install? Eliminate variables and then add them back in one by one. That's the key to troubleshooting. Because the latency is so low on the Optane drive, things that were previously considered irrelevant starts affecting it significantly.

raidxpert driver? never heard of it so probably not installed. I mention the intel nvme driver because its whats recommended to be installed by intel themselves for optimal performance from their ssds ( intel miniport device management nvme driver) and is required to do firmware updates to the drive too. I will be clearing out the drive and doing a clean install and write back what happens after. thank you!
