Hi, I heard this on the radio the other day.
To "opt-out" of credit card and insurance lists:
1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) for all three credit bureaus.
Link
Make sure you dial the number correctly, because you have to provide very private info.

Optout permanently, not just 2 years!

When you call, you press 2 at first (#1 is for if you "received an email")
Then press #3. (#1 is to opt out for 2 years, #2 is to opt back in)

Then you input your telephone number and at the recording you give your name and address and they will send you a form in the mail about a week later for you to fill out and send back. :)

I checked my equifax report and they had sold my name and address out atleast 20 times last year to marketers including citibank, attwireless, mci, and so on. :|

I signed up for this last September. They take your info over the phone and if you opt out permanently, they snail-mail a form that must be signed and returned. Before doing this, I received maybe one CC offer per month. Within a couple weeks after sending it in, I started receiving three or four offers per week. I don't think I've received any CC offers since mid-December though...
