ntroducing the Oppo Find 7. If you thought your 1080p screen was fancy, then prepare to be disappointed. Again, playing no games, the Oppo Find 7 has a 5.5" 2K QHD 2560 x 1440 pixel display.

No Mediatek chipsets in this smartphone, instead the Find 7 is expected to be carrying the Snapdragon 801-- the same processor you'll find in the new Samsung Galaxy S5. No compromises on RAM in this phone either, as it is expected to have 3GB of it available for the developers to make use of.

"Surely the camera must suck" might be the sentence you have in mind right now, given that the cameras of many "China phones" are sub-par. However, again: Oppo isn't playing games. They've leaked what appears to be a 50 MP (yes, fifty megapixel) action shot. Ok.. let's not get ahead of ourselves here though.. it appears to be interpolated from 13MP, which is disappointing. The image itself doesn't look very sharp, however let's assume that the photo was actually taken at midnight and what we're seeing is the world's most amazing camera :) Just kidding, but based on all of the other specifications, it is unlikely that Oppo would cheap out on the camera. However, to be honest, don't be surprised if they do.

The 5.5in screen may be a put off for some people, but the spec's look decidedly premium.

Gorgeous, but what are the chances we'll be able to buy one in the states (that also works well on our networks)?

Optimistically . . . slim. :/

They could well support AT&T/TMO bands, but I'm 100% certain you won't see it in a carrier or B&M store, so it'll be limited to the tech 'elite'.

If true, sounds like a killer phone, but most of the article seemed to be guesses and not confirmations. The Oppo 5 was also pretty darned heavy for a 5" phone (closer to Note series weight) so hopefully they've refined their process to be thinner or use alumnium. Otherwise it could be quite the literal brick. Lastly their cameras haven't been great, though I'd expect to see improvements there.

Yeah the bands is my concern, I wasn't expecting to see one in an AT&T or T-Mobile store.

I bought a find 5 when it just came out

Most likely this will work on at and T-Mobile, but no LTE support.

Moved to a nexus 5, not planning to get the find7. ( software wise, oppo is still lacking finness

Oppo has always been premium, right? I wonder what the battery life is for this thing?

Not the first time they performed a miracle on the specs war front; they were among the two first brands to deliver a 1080p screen in a phone (I think HTC Butterfly just narrowly beat them to it).

Another chinese model to keep an eye on is Vivo XPlay 3s; also has a QHD screen, but on an even more unwieldly 6" panel. Idk off the top of my head if it's available for sale yet.

I personally think this is a bit of a major trend in the Tech world. The chinese are sitting extremely close to the production process of tech products and this gives them an advantage on the development front. They're beginning to learn to cut out both the western (/korean) marketing- and development middlemen. Especially when it comes to competitive pricing of mid range models they blow the west out of the water.

I should add that "mid range" in Chinese terms can easily refer to something with an FHD screen and octa-core (cortex A7) processor...

I remember when Oppo used to make DVD players with hidden menus to bypass regions :)

1440p is one thing. But I hope the display also looks good. Because they could still mess up the colors, saturation or something. Dunno how they've done in the past regarding quality. I admit I have a habit of thing "poor quality" when thinking of companies that only sell low cost products in China.

Either way, I have a hard time getting interested in Huawei, ZTE, and these others that announce interesting stuff, but never sell their stuff in the US.

The Find 5's display was one of the best on the market when it was released, and still competes.

That's not it. The screens are still sourced from Japan or Korea. What's driving them is extreme competition. With a huge market and so many players, you have to stand out to be noticed. But, as with everywhere else, people mostly buy midrange or low-end.
