I did a search and didn't see any other threads…and no, it is not an April Fools' day joke
https://www.oppodigital.com/farewell.aspx

It has been 14 years since we established OPPO Digital in the United States, and with the support of our customers, technical partners, and movie/music studios, we produced many award-winning Hi-Fi audio products and universal disc players, spanning three generations from DVD, Blu-ray, to 4K UHD.

As our latest 4K UHD players reach the pinnacle of their performance, it is time to say goodbye. We are proud to have made such well-regarded products and to have served the enthusiast community. Without our customers' suggestions, encouragement, and support, we could not have accomplished these achievements.

Though OPPO Digital will gradually stop manufacturing new products, existing products will continue to be supported, warranties will still be valid, and both in-warranty and out-of-warranty repair services will continue to be available. Firmware will continue to be maintained and updates released from time to time. Customers can rest assured that they will continue to receive the high quality service and support that they have come to expect from OPPO Digital.

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to have developed such exciting products for our customers. It has been an honor.

Best regards,

All of us at OPPO Digital/

That's too bad. Having no-compromises high-end blu-ray / 4K players available from them probably pushed Sony, etc. to do better with their consumer models.

Wow. I really liked my old Oppo player, TONS of features. I guess with everything going digital, that's just business.

Bummer.

I almost bought their PM-3 headphones based on reviews, but decided to go a different route. That market segment is a cut-throat place to be in, and smaller companies like them will likely continue to struggle, be purchased, or close down.

At least they are still honoring all their product's existing warranties. That's the stand-up thing to do.

I just hope that I get an update to support Sony's Dolby Vision implementation for my BDP-203. They stated that the newer devices would still get updates as necessary for a bit, but older devices would likely just see critical updates. So, I should be good.

First I got rid of all those scratched records. Second i got rid of wall of cd's (bought and homemade) Now DVD has become realm of the past with streamers and TV's playing Digital Video.

I still prefer bluray and ultra HD discs. I do not think they are going away any time soon. Streaming doesn't compare. I never owned an OPPO product but god knows I covet them. Sad to see them going.

I ordered the UDP-203 today, as I never had an OPPO product, but always wanted one. Now I need a 4k tv......
