Hey.

I've just built a new computer. Everything is brand new. when i start my computer the motherboard starts up, lights come on and the fans start, but i connect it to the screen but nothing comes up. This is weird....

Also

the optical drive doesn't open when i turn the computer on and all the cables are connected?
Although when i IDE cable is not connected it opens perfectly? Y!!!!

You could have a conflict between IDE devices. Are all jumpers set for "Cable Select?"

When you set all IDE devices as "Cable Select," the devices at the far end of the cable are masters, and the ones connected in the middle of the cable are slaves. If that is not the way you want them, you can manually override those settings using the jumpers.

Some motherboards have problems recognizing some IDE devices correctly when they're set as "Cable Select." When you believe you have all of your drives set correctly, check the CMOS to see if it recognizes them where you think they should be. If not, or if you see one or more drives with garbled discriptions, you'll know you're on the right track.

If that happens, and resetting everything doesn't work, you can try using the jumper to clear your CMOS and let the system recognize everything, again.

Hope that helps. :)

Ive done what harey suggested and nothing, ive built it anumber of times and nothing. Ive taken the bat out and used the jumpers BUT no luck, ive replaced the motherboard but the same thing still happens!!!! Could it be the CPU?
