Hey everyone, I'm Andy and am new to these boards and once I found out about the website by searching on google for hardware reviews I was overwhelmed with all of the information I learned about the hardware I was looking for that I found on this website. To the point: I'm interested in building a PC that can perform all of my basic computing needs but can also play the latest in games at playable framerates while still maintaining the games intended visual beauties. When anyone builds a new computer they intend on it atleast being future-proof for atleast another year or so. In my case, I'd like to have a rig that can be upgradable to where if the future throws some hefty things at it within the next couple of years, it will be able to take it on with a fighting chance. I'm sure you all know what I mean. I have the intentions of overclocking the processor atleast so please keep this in mind. Here is the list of hardware I've compiled. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated :) NOTE: I don't plan on buying the video card at this moment so I'm sticking with something that has atleast the 6100 or 6150 IGPU.

Will you also mind telling me if all of these parts are compatible together? It's my first PC build and I'm not as sure as the more experienced.

I already have a hard drive and cd-rom and plan on buying a video card in the next month or so. Thanks a lot everyone!

i noticed in the RAM you mentioned the timing was 2.5-3-3-7 and the memory I mentioned was 2.5-3-3-6. Would the memory I mentioned be faster because it has lower latency? What's the big difference besides $4.00. On another note, last time I looked around for a video card I was really interested in the XFX 6600GT PCI-E card.

Well... those components are compatible and should all work together. If you want a system that can game I would highly recommend staying away from onboard graphics. They are notorious for being poor performers. A 6600GT is a decent card that can still keep up with todays games at lower resolutions. However for the money you might want to look at one of the 7300 series. I would also recommend upgrading your power supply to something like this. I've seen too many systems get totally fried from cheap high wattage PSUs.

i was aware about the integrated video dilema but it's just to get me by until i can afford a graphics card that'll last me a couple of years. i was skeptical about the psu too. the cables on the psu you linked me to look too short. is 300W enough though? i wont be running anything like an FX-55 or a 7900GT. btw thanks for checking the compatibility on the hardware ryan256. also, what is the difference in ATX12V and ATX psu and what is dual 12v on a psu and is it recommended for the hardware i'd be using?
