To start off with, this question is simialiar to the thread that Sofa started, but I need some info a little more specific to my problem. I can' afford to goof it up. :)

Now the problem, my CPU fan is EXTREMELY loud. It just started getting like this within the last couple of months, and I am getting to the point where I can't stand it. My processor is a 700Mhz slot A T-Bird, running with a cybercooler on a Epox 7KXA mobo. The system temperature usually stays at about 35 degrees celcious, it does not matter whether it is sitting idle or has been gaming for a couple of hours. The cybercooler is one of those big 3 fan jobs, so I am sure it puts a lot of air across the processor. So my question is... Can I unplug the cpu fan to get rid of the noise without burning up my processor?

I saw the video over at Tom's hardware with socket A T-Birds, and they lasted about a second. :Q I can't afford to do that to mine. :(

Thanks in advance for the comments.

That video is without a heatsink or a fan. You are just talking about no fan and leaving the heatsink intact. I would not suggest this route because almost all of AMDs CPUs run hot enough to require some form of active cooling. Have you investigated new fans of the same size. Maybe just one of the three is off kilter or has a bad bearing and if it was replaced the noise probem would be solved. I would look into it further before turning off the fans.

Thanks for the reply Nelson. I wasn't planning on finding another fan for it, within the next month or two I am planning to upgrade the processor and get a socket A DDR board. I was just wondering if there would be a "cheap" fix out of the situation. AMD's do run hot, but I was hoping a slot A would be less inclined to burn up. Thanks for input.
