geek toy == cheap box running linux of some flavor
I already have one, and I am thinking about building another, better one (better than a pentium classic 200MHz w/32MB RAM)
I want it to be cheap and reliable. Speed is not an issue. And I am planning to look for components in the Agora.
I was thinking a 440BX mobo and a p2 233 or something might work. With 64MB RAM or higher. A fully integrated mobo (sound, video, maybe NIC onboard) isn't out of the question though. What would a good mobo/proc/RAM combo be?
Also, is it possible to put an ATX style mobo and PS into an AT style case?
as for what I'd do with this...planning on running a linux distro of some sort - maybe a bunch of them to learn more. Lotsa command line stuff, but I want to run Xwindows too (min 1024x768x16bit). Maybe do some C++ programming on it. Mostly good around with linux - I don't need lots of bells and whistles either on the computer or on the OS.
cheers!
