I've decided to ugrade my old pentium 133 to an athlon that i was planning to build from scratch. I've decided that i would like to go the barebones route, and have configured the following:
1.44MB FDD
(EPOX 8K7A-Specs; AMD T-BIRD 1000(266MHZ); 256MB NON-ECC PC2100; ENLIGHT 7237
and i would add the following that i would install myself:
MSI GEFORCE2 MX 32MB SDR W/(S)TV OUT MS-8818
MAXTOR 20.0GB ST0152000H EIDE ULTRA-DMA/100 7200RPM
PIONEER DVD-105S 16X-DVD EIDE SLOT INTERNAL
this all comes to $564 + $40 for shipping...
i know i could do cheaper with an ECS board and building it entirely from scratch, but i like the comfort of knowing the parts have been tested. Your thoughts please

Sounds like a decent rig. You might want to consider going up to the 1.4GHz, as it shouldn't be that much more $$.

Enjoy!

Only suggestions I have:

Why not go 30GB or larger? IDE storage is so cheap now, I would imagine a 30GB or even a 40GB wouldn't be more than $20/$35 respectively.
If you're gonna go for a GHz+, might consider a faster video card, that way it won't be keeping the rest of the system back.
Lastly, no sound card?

didn't want to deal with the heat issue with the faster athlons... I'm thinking of waiting for the nvidia chipset since it'll have integrated video that will be up to par with the msi card. I really only need 20gigs since i'm putting up with a 1.6gig right now. i hope to have the sound intergrated too.
