Hi everyone.

First of all I'm relatively new to this forum and building computers and just wanted to say I've learned a lot here in the last several weeks.

I'm planning on building my second computer and am currently researching components. I'm not a heavy gamer, mainly stuff like Links 2001 and Combat Flight Simulator 2. Also will be used for web browsing, CD burning, CAD, Quicken, using TV-out for DVD, etc. I'm interested in a stable, fairly quick and reasonably priced computer. Not interesed in overclocking or going crazy about frame rates. These are the components I'm currently looking at:

DFI AK76-SN mobo
AMD Athlon T-Bird 1.4Ghz retail
2 sticks Crucial 256MB RAM Unbuffered
IBM 40GB 7200RPM 60GXP HDD
Gainward Geforce2 Pro/450 64MB video card
Toshiba 16x DVD-ROM (SD-M1502)
Lite-On LTR 1610 2B CD-RW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound
Case and Power Supply(350+) to be determined
Win2k

What do you think? Also, this will be my first time with Win2K so can anyone point me to info on installation tips/setup?

Thank you.

Tom

Looks like a good setup. Don't know much about the DFI board, so I won't comment, except to say that the AMD 761 chipset that it has is a good one to get. Did you think about the SiS 735 one as well since the performance is better, the cost is less and it includes a built in NIC.
It looks like you might be shopping at Newegg which is a good idea. The Crucial RAM can probably be had direct from Crucial for cheaper than Newegg has it.
Also, you would have to go elsewhere to get the Lite-On DVD instead of the Toshiba, but I think it would be worth it because the Lite-On doesn't have the DVD rip speed limitation that the Toshiba has. Just some thoughts...

Looks good. There may be better choices on the mobo as NelsonMuntz suggested. My experience with DFI is not the best, but that goes back some time. My $.02
