I'm wondering how that Sack of Shit in the center of the OP image got his face blanked out. That right there is

It wasn't like that before. I didn't study him, but I took particular notice that he was young; maybe 15? It was retroactively edited. Good reason to download anything you want to keep, and reupload it. Hotlinking allows changes and deletions without recourse. Archive.org might have a copy though.

It's just as well that the original media source uploaded a separate image with the face-blur job and left the original on their server :D

somehow i feel that the problem with the WW2 nazis wasnt the way they dressed or the roman salute, but rather the killing.
come on guys, these are reenactors. they are nerds, not skinheads.

You're giving them way too much credit. Some of the top Nazis were nerds. Heck, Adolf himself was pretty damn nerdy.

Re-enactors with no opposing force of re-enactors present. That doesn't smell fishy to you? It stinks to high heaven to me.

Also, if you haven't checked out post 26, you ought to. IMO when the leader of a group of "re-enactors" turns out to be a Nazi, let's assume the rest of the group are genuinely in that group for the re-enactment, they wouldn't have cottoned on to the source of his enthusiasm?

I got a mod message that the guy is underage and hadn't consented to his photo being used. Which is fair enough. Although I'd argue (if I was a newspaper) that he'd been fine with his picture being taken and used before people went "...wait... Thats an SS uniform!?"

It kinda suggests that someone is following the story around the internet asking for takedowns though!

I doubt that all of them are Nazis. The guy in the leather coat certainly has a Hitler fetish though. His twitter handle ends with 1889 (which is Hitlers birth year), he's been photographed doing Nazi salutes at significant Nazi sites, his son has disowned him over the whole Nazi thing (before all this kicked off)...

I'm always a bit suspicious who use re-enactment as an excuse to wear the swastika. And remember this wasn't a re-enactment event, it was a 1940s day for that area. There were never any German troops in Norfolk in the 40s.

I saw a group of Klingons once at the the ren fair. The makeup looked fairly professional. Not sure what the connection is, but there's a lot of fluidity at ren fairs anyway. Most would be more accurately described as medieval fairs.

Point is, motivation doesn't matter much to me when someone's playing dress up. If it goes beyond playing dress up, I hope they have the courtesy to keep wearing the uniforms so I know where to plant my axe.

In my experience the people dressing up as the actual historical SS in accurate uniforms know what they're doing and it is almost always for the reasons you would suspect.

These are not the same as nerds dressing up as a fictional race IMO.
Though I do side eye people dressing up as Imperials because well they are just space Nazis. The inference was not exactly subtle in the movies but some people appear to have not gotten the clue.

As a Star Wars nerd I find this offensive!

yeah, your arguments are sound and i know from personal experience that these groups of ww2 aficionados always have the odd or two Hitler fanboys.
my point is, even if the guy masturbates to nazi propaganda, i bet my money he stops at the fetishism. i've known footballs fans that are more dangerous, and i mean that.

now, on the other hand, neo-nazis in non-historical gear, with names like MARTYRS OF FREEDOM or whatnot, i find those much more dangerous.

still, i think we can all agree, if the guy is just a reenactor, a quick poke through his affairs wouldnt hurt anyone.

The little burg I live near used to have Civil War days with re-enactors. The ones that dressed South leaned that way in their daily lives. I worked with a couple of them.

I bet that if you got a couple of pints into him he'd start ranting about the Jews and sending anyone slightly darker than pasty white "back where they came from" even if they were born here.

Oh yeah, I dont think this lot were out to lynch anyone. The lead guy is a complete troll by his sons account. Just goes out of his way to cause offence.

Meh, I wouldnt go that far. I dont think the guy is an actual physycal danger to anyone. He's just a dick. Its important that people push back against people being dicks though, otherwise you get this pervasive, creeping attitude where extreme views slowly get normalised.

Are there any UK laws on this?

In Germany the group may face charges or have their toys seized.

I'm not aware of any UK laws regarding Nazi memorabilia. I think the difference between Germany and the UK here is that most Germans post WW2 knew perfectly well the lure of thinking you're superior and how well it works on everyday people, whereas I imagine to post WW2 British people it seems like more of an unbelievable jump from "normal person" to Nazi.

For most of my life I wondered how the German people fell to it, but especially seeing the rise of Trump it's pretty obvious how it works, and people with conservative viewpoints are especially vulnerable to it.

You should find being Star Wars fan being offensive to the rest of the population:colbert:
Huh? How does that work? Star Wars is awesome!

Oh, let me guess, you are a Trekky who can't stand Star Wars. Look, I actually like both Star Trek and Star Wars, but I am just bigger into SW. It is OK to like both!
