I thinking about getting this monitor as well

would like to hear some people's opinion

I'm kinda worried about the 1600x1200 @ 60hz. Right now my display is at 1152x864 @ 85hz and I've honestly never used anything higher than that....but maybe someday I will ;)

With the qualification that I never use any resolution other than 1024X768 - I think the Samsung SyncMaster 955DF is fine. I'm quite pleased with it.

If I were going to use 1600X1200 resolution, I'd probably consider a monitor with higher scan rate capabilites.

Hope this helps!

For a 19 in monitor, the text at 1600 x 1200 is too small to comfortably work with. Fuggetaboutit.

The 900nf is much better than the 955df. If I remember correctly, the 900nf will allow 1600x1200 @ 85hz.

The 955df will only allow 1600x1200 @ 65hz, which is unusable for most people.

I read specs as well as the next guy. We're all aware that the 900NF has much better scan-rate capabilities.

But really - who can read text for any period of time with 1600X1200 resolution?

Spend the extra money on a better heatsink or graphics card.

What's the refresh rate at 1152x864?

Can you get it up to 85hz?

Also, how's the text? I've read a couple places that the text seems a bit fuzzy and there's different colors at the corner of the monitor...? Notice any of that?

I have used this monitor since last July. At the time it seemed to be the best monitor for the money at the shop I got it at. All in all, I
am very happy with it. I hardly ever go above 1280X whatever, so the 1600Xwhatever isn't an issue for me. When I have to use
my older Viewsonic graphics series monitors I appreciate all the more. My older monitor was so contrasty that viewing stuff with a white
background was difficult for long periods of time. With the samsung, it seems like the white backgrounds appear whiter without being
overly bright. That may sound like a contradiction, but it seems the samsung does a better job overall with the picture. I feel like I can work
longer periods of time with this monitor. This is amazing since my old monitor was an above average monitor when I bought it.

I would definitely consider it if I were to need another monitor.

artemedes - thanks for the mini-review :)

I'll ask you the same thing then, can you get it at 1152x864 @ 85hz?

I can't agree with Dunkster.. I'd say put as much as you can on your monitor -- don't cheap it.. The main reason is that it's your view into your PC -- it's something you CONSTANTLY use -- it's something that will stick around while the other pieces of your machine get upgraded over and over.. It only makes sense to buy the best you can get -- and if you can't afford the best, you just wait till you can..

About the original question, get the 900NF over the 955DF.. You'll thank me afterwards.. :)

Ah crap

Just noticed the 900nf was Aperture Grille. I've never used one of those monitors before. Not sure if I'll be able to stand the lines......

The main reason I gave the 955DF a miss was because of its low 66 Hz refresh rate at 1600 x 1200. That to me is unnacceptable because if I'm buying a 19" monitor I should have 1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz or more.

That's why I ended up getting a Sony CPD-G420 instead.

I've got a 955DF and I'm really pleased w/ the picture on it. I run 1280x1024 and I can't really recall wat my refresh rate is but I haven't had any problems with it. My roomate has the 19" Dell Trinitron monitor and I can't notice any appreciable difference b/w the two monitors. If I had the money I'd go for the 900nf but if money is an issue the 955DF is an excellent buy.
