Any number matching to confirm those are the panels in the CML174B?

I wish stores like bestbuy had a larger selection of LCD panels so we could try them out before we bought them elsewhere for less $$ 🙂 🙂

And this is exactly why companies like Bestbuy do not carry these.

Wow, $650 is a good deal.

Of course, my similarly priced Samsung TFT looks pretty good in games as well... But this looks better. 🙂
Which Samsung? My 172T seems fine the few times I've tried it, but then again I'm not a hardcore gamer. (It's rated at <25 ms.)

I haven't had a chance to test out the Hitachi.

Thanks for the info folks. Bump again.

BTW, I would be buying it at monitorsdirect.com for 620 as someone mentioned earlier.

I've had this monitor since it was first available at Monitorsdirect.com and it's a great monitor. The one "dim" spot is that the monitor (as pointed out in reviews) is rather DIM. It's fast though....I've played hours of UT2K3 and I can't see a bit of ghosting. The colors are very good....if just a tad dim. I would pay again! 🙂

lol, passed by so many radars ? I've KNOWN about this for over a month now, just gotta go to different messageboards other than this one. I thought you all knew.
the CML174 is newer than the 170, the former is the one you want. I suggest going to www.monitorsdirect.com to buy it as they're a damn good company (haven't dealt with yet but check our resellerratings) and they have it for a good price and are very knowledgable. if you go on tom's hardware forums i believe the head technician or whatever guy posts there often. this is the monitor i'm going to get hopefully sometime soon as i play a lot of games. I had a Samsung 191t that i bought and returned because there was too much ghosting but its a fabulous lcd as well. i luckily heard about the Hitachi CML174 after researching so i was still able to return it. the only thing bad about it (to me) is the size, i really want at least a 19" LCD since I have a 19" CRT right now, also a Hitachi.

oh and I heard this monitor is VERY bright with good saturation of colors. most ppl I've heard turn down the brightness to half and its still plenty bright.

wait, 174 seems to be not using Hitachi's Super-IPS panel,
as Hitachi Japan only has Super-IPS panel, and is 30-35ms (30ms is the best Super-IPS technology can do), no such thing as 16ms panel.
however, current desktop lcd should all be 24bit colors.

A 19" CRT is more like 18" viewable, while a 17" LCD will be 17" viewable.
So it's really a one inch difference.

one inch makes quite a difference my friend *wink*

lol but yeah, I know LCDs have more viewable area at "comparable sizes" but I'd still want at least a 19"
that Samsung 191t was sweet, just too much ghosting for me
