Opinions on the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod for HL2

Thinking about firing up HL2 again while I wait for Stalker and Episode 2. Looking for opinons and feedback on the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod for HL2. It supposedly adds high res textures to everything and then adds blockbuster movie type music for the main mods. It also adds more realism to the weapons damage I guess. I'm a little concerned about getting shot once or twice and having to start over, but that's probably the least of it. :)

Anyone strongly recommend? Anyone say don't bother, it's not worth the effort and ruins the original? Let me know. Thanks.

Link (Although I think it's up to version 3.0 now)

It was better in it's earlier versions IMO -- the newer versions (pretty much everything after version 3) add a bunch of rediculous looking skins (alyx in a bathrobe.. WTF?) In the earlier versions, all it changed was to make the textures higher resolution and add some music like in the file you linked. :(

You don't have to use the new skins. You can still use the high res old textures IIRC.

And it's up to 3.0 now (it was on the hl2files homepage, duh ;))

HL2 Cinematic Mod v3.0

Cinematic Mod Patch (3.00-3.05)

And just to let you know, you need to download the base source SDK (you get it through steam) from Steam too.

It would be a good idea to get the new versions since they use the new source engine (base source engine 2), (and I guess have better performance or higher resolutions textures?, I don't know).

And I think (minus the new Alyx textures) that the Cinematic mod is better then the original.

And OP, does your sig have to be so long?? (just wondering :p)

well i haven't played it ... but the *cure* for a 1-shot kill is "quicksave"

and QuickLoad ;)

TRY it ...

. . . and report back and give your opinion, please .... :D

What "effort" ? -- it isn't like you are paying for it or on dial-up
[--like me, stuck at 56K ... and who really didn't care for HL2 all that much anyway ... i have SO many other great games to play]

Not so fast, my man. There's like two people on the whole net still using dial up. Sounds like one is you, and the other is me. ;) And my time is money.

The version I played had some ridiculous bugs. Other than those few bugs, it's a great mod! If those bugs are fixed, I suggest playing the mod instead of the original game :D

I liked it, some of the textures are kinda wonky-looking, but for the most part it enhances the experience. I don't like the music though; I'm only talking about the graphic enhancements.

By the way: If you have only 1GB of RAM, expect it to run somewhat choppily whenever textures are being swapped.

It's great; I love the textures.
Also, ignore what FakeFactory says about resolutions lower than 1600X1200 using the lowest level mipmaps. I run 1280x960 and I do not see this occur on my 7950GT.

I will have to give this a try also. Tried downloading it before, but it never completed.

Just looking at some of the screenshots scare me however. Im debating if I should try and dodge alex's poppin nipples.

Is it pretty easy to uninstall? And you can use the old Alex textures, right?
