opinions on the 4870 x2

YES!!!!!!!!!!! just the answer i wanted to hear!!! thank man. i wanna be able to make crysis get on its knees and say master your gpu is to awesome. i am now your bitch!!!

frankly i like it
there is this little black border around it on my LCD ,, but Crysis is smooth as butter
- maxed out .. and Warhead runs with no slowdowns with even 4xAA/16xAF
A 280 is flat-out better at that resolution. Read reviews people, read reviews.

i wouldn't say better ,, certainly not for Crysis nor Warhead
But a 280 is probably a better buy for 16x10 than a X2 . . . especially if CF does not scale

And if you are going to get a 4870X2 because you may move up to a bigger monitor at some point.....use the ebay cashback. Its a good deal...
On your resolution....no. But hey, at least you are honest.
Point being, if you want ATi, the 4870 512 or 1GB is fine.

i can't [really] speak for others, but i got my X2 because it was faster than my GTX280 in most situations
- but then i use 19x12

i am sorry but that is patently untrue
that *single* link is to an ancient article where CF did not scale in Crysis
in MOST games and at MOST normal resolutions - the X2 beats the 280
except where CF does not scale and in a few other unusual situations

i like both of you
and the X2 is generally Overkill for 16x10 .. but great for crysis at that resolution ... so if you are looking at future games, it is just "expensive"
but heck, i got one
.. and a GTX280 ...
a single 4870 is insufficient for 19x12 imo; that would make it barely sufficient for 16x10 if you like ultra details and filtering. GTX280 just gives that 'extra' for 19x12 .. but still, for some games, i find i like X2 instead ..
- it kinda makes it tough ..

i like both companies and run both of their HW. The have very differing philosophies yet remain amazingly competitive. When i was younger, i was an ATi fanboy. After the takeover, i do not care for AMD as much as i did ATi and i also like Nvidia's vision for a "3D future" which is rather like my own for my own site.
SO .. what can i say. i like them both. And there are times when a 280GTX just runs better than the X2 - for certain games where it does not scale; there are several i play where i definitely prefer Nvidia
also i give the edge to Tesla for IQ and better filtering; AMD for raw speed; but it took a sandwich to do it

Poppy- When did they fix these drivers? Anand also shows the x2 getting beat at res in question
