Opinions on Sony KDF-42E2000 42" 3LCD Rear Projection HDTV

My brother wants an HDTV, and I know very little about them. Is there any reason he SHOULDN'T get this particular model?

For the next two years it will mainly be used to play video games, because he lives in a college dorm and can't get HD cable/satellite. Watching Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies is another possibility.

Edit: BTW, it's on sale at a local electronics store for $800-900 (I forget exactly), that's why he's looking at this model. Another option is the 37" LCD TV from Newegg. Which would be a better choice?

don't let the sony haters discourage you...most of them hate sony because it is the cool thing to do here...

having owned a KDF42A10 since January, I can speak from experience this TV rocks...the picture is awesome and we haven't had any problems with it at all...

have been using sony cameras since 2000 and I haven't had any problems with them at all...[/knocks on wood]...

I recently bought the panny plasma. While looking around for the tv the model I was most impressed with was the Sony KDF-50E2000 (withing my budget ofcourse cuz the best one was Pioneer elite). I was very tempted to buy the 50" sony for the same price as panny but in the end I went with the flat panel because of the looks. But to tell you the truth the picture quality on sony was just amazing.

I have the 50" version, and so far it has been an exellent TV. Amazing picture quality (to me at least. My sister also has one, but the same 42" version as that, and she loves it.

I am no Sony fanboy, but I woud rather not have a camera at all than have to use anything other than a Cybershot.
