Ok heres what happened,

My ECS Nforce 570 SLIT-A(v5.1) is somewhat dead and I plan on RMAing it back to ECS. Do you think that I would be able to ask them for an upgraded model such as their P2N which is based on the nforce 680i?

I mean, I am using a socket 423 computer right now for god's sake. Do you think I deserve something from ECS for my troubles? Even if they wouldn't give this sort of upgrade for free, do you think they would if I offered to pay them a little to get this upgrade?

I really dont want the nforce 570 back since it took my largest of my hard drives with it to PC heaven.

No harm in trying though, worst they can do is give you a new/repaired motherboard. If you get lucky, you get a P2N for free, or perhaps if you pay a little extra.

ECS service is the worst it can get other then a lable saying "Dont call us we'll call you" on it.
I use and have ECS MB's, Just to save your time, money and peace of mine just toss it and buy another, ECS = disposable MB.
Will I buy them in the future, Sure, Great deals and the return policies at Fry's makes sure I have one that works everytime.

Fixed. ;)

Last I checked, the official written ECS warranty on their site stated that you have to RMA to the place you purchased it from, because they do not process end-user RMAs. (though I have been offerend end-user RMA from them for a fee)

Yup, buy bottom-feeder equipment, expect bottom-feeder service. Though sometimes one can be surprised...

well it actually turned out not so bad for me. It seems that a PCIe slot burned out so I just slapped my video card in the other PCIe slot and it booted right up.

this is surprising to me. I rma'd a frys board to them a few years back. the onboard sound chip went out and they gave me a brand new latest rev of the board. admittedly I went to the trouble of dropping it off in person since their offices are 20 min away. It took a week or so but the email came back that the replacement was ready, and they even gave me the option to pick up or they would ship at no cost to me. I guess their policy may have changed given the volume of product they move now.

not that I'm defending their products, two years later that same board gave up the ghost in a cpu sink swap. might have been an ESD but who can tell.

OP: don't know if the board is still under warranty, but send it in if they allow it. if it's old enough it may not be worth it to the technician to diagnose the problem and find a repair part. they may just send you the next compatible board they have. just figure out if it's worth it to you to pay the shipping.

I'm going off their web site RMA policy. "ECS Warranty is offered to direct customers with valid ECS invoice only."

I know Western Digital offers to upgrade to a bigger drive when I fill out an rma... it's absolutely ridiculous, though, the prices are sometimes twice Newegg's, and the in-warranty trade value is exactly $1 off. My last rma through them was with a pair of 36gb raptors, and they offered to upgrade me to one 74gb raptors for just over $200. I laughed when I declined the upgrade, they didn't have any replacement 36gb drives, sent me two free brand new 74gb drives in exchange. :)

But really, the moral is, upgrades, when offered, are usually a rip-off.
