Well I think we would need to know what else is in your computer to tell you if this or any other psu will be good.

I'm thinking of getting a modstream but I'm not sure it will fit in my case, how long is the modstream?

oh and by the way after pricing it all out i can afford an extra 30 or so dollars on any one part, so if the PSU needs changing i can go more expensive on that

Don't get a Thermaltake PSU. They tend to droop their rails under load. +12v@18A is weak too. You should get a minimum of +12V@24A.

That's what bothered me too when I looked at the specs for that P/S.

Also, it has NO PFC (Power Factor Correction).

It's odd though that the 5V rail is rated at 40A, much more than is usually required of a desktop system.

It could use less 5V current capability and MORE 12V current capability.

I'd pass on this one and INSTEAD consider this Seasonic SS-350FB 350W P/S .

I know it is only rated 19A on the 12 V rail but SeaSonics are excellent power supplys and this model with a 120mm fan will be efficient AND quiet.

It also has ACTIVE PFC on a P/S that sells for only $60 !!!

:)

I agree with these choices:

For the Fortron Blue Storm here's a really good deal on it (the AX500A) over here at ActBuy for $78 delivered ! That's a good price; 4 weeks ago I paid $97 delivered for the SAME P/S at NewEgg - I could have saved $19 - sh*t. You can see it's now $98 delivered at NewEgg so it's gone UP in price. ACTbuy does not have a lot of reviews at resellerratings.com but what they have so far is EXCELLENT.

SeaSonics are GREAT ! I found this 400W (22A on 12V rail) model SS-400FB Super Tornado for $79 over here at PCAlchemy. Seasonics, with their 120mm fans and excellent electronics are quiet AND efficient. This particular model has ACTIVE PFC - EXCELLENT !!!

For OCZ I found this OCZ ModStream OCZ45012U 450 Watter (26A rating on 12V rail) for $87 over here at NewEgg. Note that this P/S has ACTIVE PFC which is GREAT !
Bear in mind that SOME people find the tightly-wrapped cables hard to deal with but they sure do LOOK great !!!

I hope I've been of some help ! :D
