Trying to finalize things and see if anyone has some good suggestions. Here's what I've got so far:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939

Mobo: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD

PSU: Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W

HDD: HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722516DLA380 (0A31637) 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA II

Case: COOLER MASTER CAVALIER 3 CAV-T03-UK Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Mid Tower

GPU: XFX PVT45GUDF3 Geforce 6800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Sound: CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS SB0350 8 (7.1) Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface

I'm going to use CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives from my old system as well as the pqi TURBO 2x512MB PC3200 2-5-3-3-7 that I got for it that I now wish I hadn't (it's the cheap stuff on Newegg). I'm worried about the RAM, might beg for some new stuff for my birthday etc. if I don't have any enough money to blow on it.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm guessing you'll be overclocking and gaming but the part's you've chosen.

CPU: Good choice

MoBo: Good choice for overclocking

PSU: Not Bad - but maybe a truepowerII would be better.

HDD: Hitachi? I'd go with WD/Seagate

Case: Nice

VC: Very Nice. Some people will say not to get XFX, but they seem decent enough to me.

Sound: If you want to save some cash, just go with onboard sound. And if you don't like it, it's always easy to add a sound card later.

With the money you could save from the sound card, you could get a DVD Burner. Pioneer and NEC both seem to be good choices.

Looks like a nice system, you might need a powersupply though unless you already have one. Not sure I would buy another coolermaster case although i guess it is good value for the money

I am one of those people :)

Everything else I agree with what you said.

I don't really have the budget to get a more expensive power supply, and I need the video card to be under $300 - what tends to be bad about the XFX cards?

That Hitachi drive has been getting some great reviews out of the SATA II crop. It supports 3.0 Gb/s transfer speeds with a utility from the Hitachi website, so it seemed like a good choice.

Also are there any cases in that price range that are better than the Cavalier?

Thanks for the input - I appreciate it.

Nice system  though I'll second the suggestion of not purchasing the sound card until you've built the system; I think you'll be happy w/ the onbaord. That'd also free up some $$ if you're not happy w/ the memory.
