Hi, Im about to order a new system :)D) and just want to check that no-one has heard that component xxxx blows up exactly 24 hrs after it is plugged in (or equivilant). So heres my setup

Motherboard Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD 64 3500+
Graphics Card: BFG Geforce 6800GT 256MB PCIE
RAM: Corsair Value Select (2x512MB) PC3200
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 160G SATA
Sound Card: Audigy 2 6.1
Optical Drive: Pioneer DVD writer
Case: Thermaltake Shark Black (w/ window)
Power Supply: Antec Truepower 550W (possible 480...opinions?)
Keyboard: Logitech Media Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse

Thanks for any help, Im primarily using it for games, a bit of sound editing/recording (it will be part of a home studio...getting built over the next few years). Probably some mapping for a few games.

Actually, Anandtech reviews that NEC 3540 and found it to be quite slow. At least compared to the BenQ and all.

Might wanna bump 550 down to 480, and bump the a8n-sli deuixe to premium. The deluxe is plagued with problems.
(it will be part of a home studio...getting built over the next few years).
If that's the case, then The A8N-SLI Deluxe has a LOUD whining fan on it. Premium has a passive heatpipe solution.

Have you considered the ABIT AN8 FATA1ITY? It's a passively cooled board as well.

Heh, I am actually thinking of getting a DFI LANPARTY UT Nf4 Ultra-D instead...its cheaper :D. Will that amount of RAM be enough? Im not much of an overclocker (1 deaded computer proves that).

Im not too fussy about DVD burning speeds, as long as it wont stuff up and snap off, ill be happy.

And graphics card wise, Im pretty much stuck with Nvidia. Always had their cards and i dont have the time to research everything about ATI overnight (im ordering my comp tomorrow)

too bad ur blind brand loyalty will cost ya about $115 more for pretty much same performance...
and dont cry when my 3000+ blows ur 3500+ away... =P
and if u r going to get dfi lanparty u better not let that cosair "value" ram touch the board..

dont worry, i will be crying if my 3000+ blew me across the room when I tried to get it running like a 3500+

ok the x800xl has me intrigued. Id only be able to afford the Gigabyte version though.

ok here are some new specs that may be better:

Mobo: DFI LanParty UT nf4 Ultra-D
CPU: AMD 64 3500+ (possibly will use a 3000+....how does yours run like a 3500+?)
GPU: Gigabyte x800xl 256MB PCIE
RAM: Corsair TwinX XL 1GB Dual Channel Kit. 2 x 512Mb DDR400 Low latency (2-2-2-5) modules. Matched pair. (NOT PRO....what does this mean?)
Sound: Audigy2 7.1 ZS
PSU: Enermax 485 Watt, PCIE ok, ATX 2.0

rest is the same as before

Yeah. The DFI LanParty + Corsair Value Select = No. Try OCZ Value VX instead (roughly the same price as Corsair VS, but instead it should be compatible.)

Yeah I think it will. I think the X850XT is better than the 6800GT right? But still, X800XL performs extremely competitively. Possibly if you have cash to spare: 7800GTX ;).

here's the card...
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant...=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=190527

and get this ram...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227211

and my 3000 is faster than 3500 because i OCed it.. and is running faster than stock fx-55... not OCing a venice chip is a true waste man...
OC'ing is not dangerous as long as u have proper cooling and dont jack up the voltage too high...
go read some guides.. it's worth the effort.. especially when my $130 chip is running as fast as $800 chip.. =P
