AMD athlon 64 3700 san diego 939 1024 L2
MOBO: ASUSTek Nagami2
chipset 6150
southbridge nforce 410/430 MCP
2 gigs of ddr 400

I am thinking of adding an AMD 3850 to this. Is this overkill?>

Also would a dual core be worth it? 939 toledos on newegg for 55.99.... so tempting

3850 card and AMD X2 Toledo cpu depends on what you do with them? Playing some badass games? No? then don't bother!

For gaming of course. I am wondering if my current setup is enough to warrant a 3850, but thanks for the strange response.

Try the Video Card, but the PCIe slot in the Compaq might not support the PCIe 2.0 on the card.

You won't know until you try it though.

The CPU upgrade - make sure that HP has sold this MB with the Dual Core CPU's, otherwise it might not work.

Good luck!

Correct. There are isolated issues with certain motherboards. However PCIe 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.x, and PCIe 1.x is forward compatible with 2.0.
