okay so here it is i am thinking of buying this and need some opinions.(gameing computer).
Case: ASUS Vento 3600(Red)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Video Card: eVGA GeForce 7800GT
RAM: G.Skill Extreme Series 2GB
DVD/CD Drive: Pioneer Black DVD Burner
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 250GB
Power Suply: Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W
Fan/Heatsink: Thermaltake Big Typhoon
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI
OS: Windows XP Professional

the one main thing im still shaky on is my motherboard so if anyone has got any suggestions post away(include links if able)

THIS COMPUTER WILL BE USED FOR GAMING
 
What motherboard will you be using?

What will your primary use(s) be?

For the processor you have the option of spending either the same $ or saving a few bucks AND getting an extra 512k cache if you go w/ an Opteron 165.

Everything else looks good.

 
If you don't have a mobo already, look into the evga 7800gt/evga mobo combo for around $380. I'm using it now, it's a great setup, and I'm running my 3700+ san diego at 2.7ghz right now.

I'd also sepdn the extra $15 to get a thermaltake big typhoon instead of the arctic freezer. The arctic will cool comparable only in incredibly ventilated cases, which that case doesn't appear to have. My big typhoon holds me at 33c idle and 42c load in an Antec 1030 case with 80mm intake and exhausted fans... thats quite nice.
 
will that big typhoon work with a dual core processor(amd x2 3800+ as stated in thread) and doesnt a dual core beat single core...i really dont know much bout opteron so i cant tell

The big typhoon will work, the core looks identical and is the sam esocket type, you will have no issues.

Also, I don't have an opteron, it's a single core a64 that I'm running. As for which is better, well, thats hard to say. Even as a single core user, it seems to me that at an equal clock, your dual core will out perform my single core. The trick is that most dual core procs aren't very good overclockers from what I've seen, and so a higher clocked single core cpu is a ton cheaper then dual core
 
when i said that about the opteron i was talking to Trey22. And okay about the typhoon but im guessing they dont sell them on newegg.com which is where i usually buy but give me a link from a site that sells them and i will check them out

big typhoon on newegg

You will find that these days, newegg is starting to get super expensive. Definitely check prices against zipzoomfly, they are my #1 retailer of choice these days, never a bad experiance🙂
 
oh so on newegg it isnt called a big typhoon...and are u sure it will work with the dual core processors cause i dont want anything broken 🙂

It definitely will work, the processor is a K8 socket, it will work great... this cooler is considered to be one of if not THE best air cooler on the market
