OK, this is a system thats gonna be used a lot for gaming, but also other stuff (various programs etc). Whats your opinion of it? Is the component selection wise, if u compare each part with the other parts of the system?
Aopen AK33 ATX UDMA 66
Duron 800 MHz
128 MB SDRAM PC133
IBM Deskstar 75 GXP 7200 rpm 30 GB
ASUS V7700 Deluxe Geforce2 GTS 32 MB with video-in/out
Z7 Cooler
Aopen HQ45 ATX 250 W
Sony CRX-145E internal IDE, 10x4x32x
Soundblaster Live! 1024 Value
Labtec LCS-2514 w/subwoofer

i'd bump the ram to 256mb, throw a CDROM in their and probably get an overclockable mobo(KT7/A7V/K7Tpro2)

The AOpen motherboard is decent, it has no features to make it stand out in a crowd, but it's not bad either. Personally I'd go with MSi but the AOpen isn't bad...at least he didn't get FIC..

I'd get a DVD Rom in there and some better speakers.
But maybe you don't give you a crap about DVDs or speakers...
Maybe some more RAM to...128MB is ok now for Win98, but not for 2000 and probably not for Whistler, and with RAM so damn cheap right now you might as well get lots now.

It's a pretty decent system all in all.

anyone else..???

BTW, i was considering the MSI KT7, but the price was cheaper for the Aopen one, and if u read some reviews of this board its right up there with all the other non-overclockable socket a boards. Just as stable as the MSI board and a bit better performance (though this isnt a major factor when considering MBs) for less money...hmmmm...what makes the KT7 any better than the AK33 i dont know...

The KT7 has more performance tweaks than any other board. Asus and Msi can do many of the same things but Abit allows you to control features individually instead of general normal/fast/turbo settings. Abit can yield 550 memory scores, don't know is the Aopen can keep up. Buy a abit/asus/msi, you DO NOT want to be the only duron owner on this forum who doesn't overclock😉

if you have the extra cash, i'd get the plextor 12x/10x/32x instead of the sony 10x/4x/32x. also, odds are you will dabble in overclocking so get a board that will overclock. a good inexpensive board is the epox ep-8kta+. i like mine...

i meant the MSI K7T of course, and NOT the KT7 from Abit.. But im not sure about this o/c thing, cuz i havent done it before and that pencil trick to close the bridges...wellll.. im not confident about it...

But y is the MSI K7T any better than the Aopen AK33..??
