Opinions on: Ideal setup for 1 Fixed HDD, 1 Rem. HDD, CD-R, and CD?

Hi,
I am adding a removeable HDD to my system. I currently have 1 Fixed HDD on it's own IDE Channel and my CD-R and CD ROM on the other IDE Channel (CD-R Primary, CD Slave)

I am considering running the new removeable HDD off of a Promise IDE Controller card instead of making it a slave on the Fixed HDD channel.

Does this make sense to do?

Will this yield the optimal performance?

What would you do?

Thanks everyone.

footnote: Both HDD's are Maxtor ATA 100 / 7200 rpm drives.
