Opinions on hard drives?

I'm looking to replace my raid array with a single drive (linux and beos dont like it too much)
I've been looking at the ibm 60gxp, the new WD line, some maxtors, and the new segate

speed is more important than size to me - 30 gigs is enough, but i dont mind paying for more if the drive is faster.

access time takes precedence over read speed

what drive would suit me best?

If access time is the most important for you, I believe the IBM 60GXP beats all other IDE drives. But I personally don't think the marginal performance difference is really noticeable amongst the top models from hard drive manufacturers.

I know you weren't asking me about that, but my experience is that older WDs are noisy, but the newer one that I have is very quiet (you can't really hear it seeking unless the cover is off of the case). A Maxtor 40GB drive (relatively new, but I don't have any idea whatsoever about the specs, since it's in an HP Pavilion system) I have experienced is a little noisier. It makes a quiet fluttering noise when seeking, but it's not annoying to me.

Newegg has an IMB 60GXP 40 gig 7200 RPM drive for $107 + shipping. I have this drive, and it is very quiet. I went from having a Seagate 5400 RPM in my Compaq to this, and let me tell you its fast, and most importantly to me, quiet. When I first got it I had to look to see that the hard drive light was on and it was functioning.
