Well I love this forum...Ive learned a LOT from all you guys out there!
My dad wants to upgrade from a 133Mhz computer and has authorized 1500 dollars. This should include a 19" monitor, but he can reuse the keyboard and mouse. These are the parts im thinking of putting together...any opinions or changes?
most everything priced at newegg...
enlight 7237 w/300watt ps $50
Epox 87KA $120
ATI RADEON VE 32MB DDR DUAL VGA DISPLAY $79
AMD T-Bird 1.2Ghz 266FSB $126
Teac 1.44 Floppy $10
IBM 40GB 7200RPM $110
Creative labs 56k modem $23
Lite-on 12x10x32x CDRW $87
Aopen DVD 16x $78
Altec Lansing ACS54 $46
Sub total $729
+shipping
Ram will be two sticks of 256 mbyte DDR2100 from crucial.com for another $100 with free shipping.
this brings the subtotal to $829(before shipping)...well below the $1500 limit. I'm not sure I want to puchase the monitor online or at my local computer store.
I will probably get a couple case fans too...
The other board I am considering is the Iwill KA266; any comparisons with the Epox?
Any changes I should make? I dont think he will ever need or use a RAID configuration, I also think the epox onboard sound will be ok for a 70 year old.
thanks for all your input!
