My uncle is looking for a nice big home theater-type tv. I told him that LCD Projection ones are really clear and will last longer than Plasma (which is what he really wants..just cause he can hang it on the wall).

So I look around and found the Sony Grand Wega KF-60XBR800. You guys got any opinions on that? Also any other tvs I should look out for from other brands?

Thanks

grand wega is garbage IMO, the colors are all washed out and the contrast and brightness makes the picture look really poor. goto a magnolia hi-fi or a defintive audio to check out some quality TVs

These threads get posted a lot so it's time for another summary of what will be said. ;)

There's a couple others as well but these are the main 2.

You'll also have people recommend Hitachi and Mitsubishi a lot... personally I recommend Hitachi since I have a 51SWX20B. If he's got $7000 to spend on a TV he could also get a Pioneer Elite.

See I'm a nice guy... I could have just yelled REPOST! Or do a search you damn n00b like some of the other people on here. ;)

Why not?

You need a lot of light control in your room for front projection, which usually means a dedicated theatre room, as opposed to putting a big TV in the corner.

I know that...just trying to find out if that's an issue or, most likely, budget. But, in that case, a large LCD panel set is very $$, too.

I don't understand half of what goes on in that AVSForum. I'm a total newbie when it comes to tvs and such. So is the general consensus that Plasma tvs are bad? My uncle always wanted one..but I told him the colour isn't that good...nor will it last long. If it indeed is a good buy, I'll tell him to go for that.

A good projector can be had for under 1000 (Sanyo something), my AE100 was $1400 bought a year ago and it does HDTv on top of thing... Now that Ive had a projector I cant go back to being w/o one.... Like dialup vs broadband. And my screen also cost me 50 bucks but its permenant (IE cant roll it up and down).

Avoid sony like the plauge for LCD, plasma and projection. They really are THAT bad.

Now you're left with a decision. Do you want a flat TV? Do you want a slim TV? Can you handle a big rear-projection model?

7000 will get you a very nice 50" plasma.

I don't like the look of LCD, can never get good blacks.

The samsung DLP models are very impressive as well and are pretty slim.

If he wants a home theater then front projection really is the only way to go.

I dont want a better screen... mines plenty good enough. Just because people want you to think the 2k screens are that much better doesnt mean you have to pay that much for one. My webpage is being flaky because Im moving dixiesys servers or id link u to my pics gallery, makes a damn good 100 inch image for 1500 bucks.
