Opinions on Altec Lansing's ATP-3?

I have a pair of those, nice speakers for the price... clean music and a pretty nice bass...

They are likely the best-sounding speakers for music in their price range. The price range being in the vicinity of $50 or so.

I just bought the ATP3s and I suppose for the price of ~$50 they are good BUT just to give you a different view, the ATP3s sound pretty bad. I really regret getting these, it was either the Monsoon MH-502 ($80) or the ATP3s ($50) and against my better judgment I picked the ATP3s. I thought I might as well save $30 but that was a pretty bad move. The ATP3s lack a defined mid range, crisp highs, and tight lows but perhaps I was expecting too much for the money :D. My Cambridge FPS2000 sound better than these imo and the comparisions were performed on the same computer with the same set of music tracks. I haven't done the tests with an SPL meter but its just bland sound all around with the ATP3s. My Paradigms however... lets not talk about them :).

From what I have read after buying the ATP3s, the MH-502 does a MUCH better job with the highs and part of the mids (they use NXT i believe aka planar transducers?) however the bass needs a little work. Or so they say. Since you are going to use the speakers with music, I recommend going with the Monsoons. The ATP3s just lack the warmth that is supposed to be there and the music is pretty much "dead". This is just my opinion and audio tastes vary greatly and I might have been spoiled by my HT setup.

If you do go the Monsoons, please do me a favor and tell me how they sound :).

That's the first bad review I hear about them. 2 questions:

1. What kind of music do you hear?
2. What soundcard do you have?
