Opinions on a Matrix Prequel Trilogy

I want to start by saying i didnt see Matrix Reloaded, so if i say something that was answered in the current movie, I'm sorry.

Well i saw someone on here say what i said when the first matrix came out. That this series is like the Star Wars of the new century. Even though you can argue, with good reasons, that Star Wars will be the best sci-fi trilogy for any century/generation; I think the Matrix series is running a close second or third as far as trilogies are concerned. (I like to add Indiana Jones at number 2.)

With that said, what do you think a Matrix prequel series would be about?

It would be interesting to see how the writers can elaborate on that short scene in the first Matrix that gives an insite on how the matrix runs itself and how it came to be.

Imagine the test programs for the agent?
What other agents were there before these guys? Old versions?
Where are the Matrix servers? 🙂
How was Zion created?
How did Neo become.........Neo?

There are so many things they could do with a prequel. Just want to hear your ideas.

While I like the idea, I really don't know if there would be enough material to effectively support a complete 3 movie prequel.

Edit: Of course, some people (not me) would say that didn't stop George Lucas....

If a prequel would cover the human/machine war... they did that... in 18 minutes of the Animatrix
See the Second Reniassance.

Im not an expert but it seems that the W brothers are not interested in providing more movie length materiel but are quite happy to allow other artists to provide "backfill" into the matrix world. I imagine there should be quite a lot of short, eclectic pieces but probably not another movie.

Just go see Reloaded...the whole point of the movie is to begin to explain things such as these.

Seriously, download the Animatrix videos.

If you Google properly, you can get to the downloads of the 4 episodes at the website. There are others out there downloadable by 'other' means 😉

edit: Looks like all 4 episodes are on that site now. When I was checking earlier this week, they weren't.

DVD comes out June 3, 2003.

Actually, some of your questions where answered in the first Matrix movie and some in the second. Briefly:

Where are the Matrix servers? 🙂 You get to see the exact location in the Reloaded, as well as the creator of Matrix.

How was Zion created? Morpheus tells Neo the story of Zeon in the first movie.

How did Neo become.........Neo? This was also answered in the first movie. In short, Morpheus received a prophecy from Oracle that told him about "The One" who would defeat the Matrix and that John Anderson is that person.

Neo is actually Thomas Anderson.
