Ok, I'm finishing up my paper on the Presidential Election of 2000 for my history class, all I need is a few opinions on the outcome. I don't want this to turn into a flame war, I just want people's opinion on what happened.

EDIT: Ok, maybe I need to clarify. I'd like well thought out opinions, not "Bush sucks, he shouldn't have been elected." You can say that, just please back it up.

IMHO, it set a precedent of how future elections will be decided, no matter the margins.

My Opinion - Put our Constitution to the test and showed that it is still resilient. Plus, showed that the Founding Fathers knew a thing or two when putting the Constitution together.

Both Gore and Bush were dead even in electoral votes...

It came down to "Florida"...

What really happened in Florida?

Five months before the election, Florida Secretary of State andGeorge Bush's Campaign co-chairperson... Katherine Harris ordered the removal of 57,700 names from Florida?s voter rolls on grounds that they were felons. Voter rolls contain the names of all eligible, registered voters. If you?re not on the list, you don?t get to vote.

If you commit a felony in Florida, you lose your right to vote there, and you?re ?scrubbed? from the rolls. You become a non-citizen, like in the old Soviet Union. This is not the case in most other states; it?s an uncivilized vestige of the Deep South.

My office carefully went through the scrub list and discovered that at minimum, 90.2 percent of the people were completely innocent of any crime ? except for being African American. We didn?t have to guess about that, because next to each voter?s name was their race.

When I questioned Harris? office about the high percentage of African Americans on the scrub list, they responded, ?Well, you know how many black people commit crimes.?

Great article...

The majority of blacks in florida were Democrats.

In Volusia County, Florida....

A discussion takes place in January 2001 concerning the fact that Volusia County, Florida (where else?) came up with -16,022 votes for Gore. Yes, re-read that, Gore was awarded NEGATIVE VOTES.

Diebold explains why the 'accident' happened...

The votes in Florida were being recounted then the supreme court stepped in, they essentially said that Bush won, Gore lost.
Keep in mind this is outrageous, unprecedented and not democracy. The deciding vote was given by Clarence Thomas, whos wife works on the Bush campaign.

Q: In other words, if America knows the truth that Gore won, they won't accept the US Supreme Court overturning Gore's victory?
A: Yes.

Q: Is that a legal reason to stop recounts? or a political one?
A: Let's just say in all of American history and all of American law, this reason has no basis in law. But that doesn't stop the
five conservatives from creating new law out of thin air.

[/b]

Understanding the Supreme court decesion

First thing Bush did as president was bar the UN election inspectors from making sure the election was fair.

In summary... Gore won Florida. But due to an 'accidental' removal of 50,000 black democrats from voting, then an GOP owned company Diebold's election machines 'accidentally' caused Gore to lose 16,000 votes, If thats not enough then the conseratives in the supreme court made a law out of thing air that basically made Bush president. Then Bush prevented the UN election inspectors from checking the election.

Honestly thats the most brilliant political coup in the history of mankind, to this day people still don't know what really happened. Congrats to the GOP.

In addition to that - the situation showed that our system, while maybe not perfect, still works and can be "upgraded" and modified once a potential problem exists. Also it shows that order can still be maintained even though an election was hotly contested, alot of coutries/systems couldn't have survived through such a period.

The Supreme Coup prevented President Gore from taking office. God is now destroying our nation as a payment for our acquiescence to this crime.

What happened?

The highest Political position in the U.S. is sold out to the highest bidder.

As I stated originally, could you please back that up with some evidence?

I just want people's opinion on what happened.

Simple. The vote results in the state of Florida were so close that they were on the level of a rounding error. When the counting was done, the counters said Bush won. Gore asked for a recount, which is perfectly within his rights to do. Both candidates argued about the methodology for the recount, basically it came down to which voting precints would be recounted and which wouldn't. Who wanted what counted isn't really important at this point. Since they were uable to agree on the recount methodology, it wound up in court.

The courts ping-ponged on how the recount should be conducted a couple of times, with the clock ticking down on D-Day - the assembly of the Electoral College. The court case was quickly sent up to the USSC to decide as the the time to make a decision was getting shorter by the moment. The USSC essentially ruled that since no recounting method selected would be able to be completed in time for the Electoral College, they decided to scrap the whole idea of a recount and go with the original count. Since Bush had been determined to be the winner in the first count, he won by default when the USSC decision was issued.

US Commission of Civil Rights

Go down to the 2000 election and read the executive summary and see what they thought.. they held hearings under oath and concluded, notwithstanding CAD's ROBOsoap, that it was a fiasco in all possible ways...
The Supreme Thwart provided the Coup de Graft... and that's my opinion...

I bet you're putting me on. But then, of course, the evidence you asked for is all around you.

I think that would be a great idea. Plus, my history class needs to here that our nation is being destroyed by God...of course half of them wouldn't believe it because they don't believe in God, and that would start another debate all on it's own. It would be wonderful fun. :)
