Opinions needed on upgrade and getting bios chips

My current s939, w/3500, 6800gt, 1gb ram all on a A8n-SLI deluxe mobo has decided to go belly up. More specifically the chipset fan failed and the bios is royally screwed as it won't even POST.
I've heard that getting a new bios chip and having it flashed could revive my system, that and a new chipset fan/heatsink. I see on ebay that there's offers to send in my current chip and they'll send a new one with the most current bios flashed on it (I'd have to ask for an older one because flashing to the latest caused this to begin with). Do you think the mobo trully needs that, or should I try something else first? And do you know anybody who has put a new bios chip in their mobo before and it worked?
I've assumed that that may not work and so I've devised an upgrade solution instead. I had planned on upgrading next Jan/Feb when the new Intel chips came out. I've scouted out an:
Abit IP35 Pro (actually from mwave.com as they have it for $168 and then a $20MIR)
And the E2180 bundled with the Abit mobo for $82.50
OCZ 4gb(2x2gb sticks) for $149.99 - $35MIR
And then a Tuniq Tower 120 for $44.99
My plan is to wait for the Q9450 coming out in Jan. getting that and selling the E2180. Does that sound like a plan, Stan? Or do you think I should just go with an E6750 now? Although if I get the E6750 I won't have enough money to get the Tuniq Tower. And no matter what I'll still be stuck with a 6800gt until I can get a new gpu next year.
I plan on reusing my current PSU which is an OCZ PowerStream 520watts. I should be safe reusing it, right? No new power connectors for Intel mobos?
Plans for use included gaming with mainly slightly older games, nothing like Crysis for me yet. Using Virtual PCs for simple software testing, web surfing, and other common tasks. (I heard a really cool idea of doing most of your main computing on a virtual pc that way if you were to somehow get a virus surfing the web or something, it's all contained!) Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you considered just picking up a replacement A8N-SLI or other S939 board off of ebay? It might be a better option. I've never had any experience with exchanging BIOS chips.

I have an Abit IP35 Pro and I can highly recommend it. I upgraded to the IP35 Pro from an A8N-SLI (not the deluxe or premium versions). If you decide to purchase the IP35 Pro, please read the Abit forums on the Abit home page for a wealth of information. This will prevent a lot of gray hairs later. I would

Do you plan on using a 64bit OS? If not, why not stick to 2GB of system memory? I would check the Abit forums to see if people are having good results with these modules in the IP35 Pro.

Do you plan on OC'ing the the E2180 or E6750? If not, the Intel heatsink might handle up to a 3Ghz OC. When using EIST and C1E, the processor does not run at full throttle all the time, thus less heat.

If you can keep the stock heatsink and stick with 2GB of a less expensive memory you might have enough money to replace the 6800GT. I am not sure if you play games or have any need for a more powerful GPU but you might consider putting some money a side for a new GPU. An 8600GT, 8600GTS, or even an 8800GT might be some options worth considering.

I've read that a lot of users are also happy with the IP35-E. It is less expensive than the IP35 Pro (the IP35-E is obviously missing some Pro features) but its worth a look if you have a tight budget.

Why did you conclude that since your system will not boot, the BIOS must be faulty?

More likely, whatever the fan was cooling overheated though there a plenty of reasons a PC will not boot.

Good luck!

Getting a new bios chip shouldn't cost much.
The chips are about 3.00 and its simple to put them in a programmer, download the bios and flash it.

I would do one for you for 5.00 shipped if I had a programmer that fit the newer chips.
All my programmers only fit dip style chips, which I'm betting your bios chip isn't.

looked on ebay and there is someone selling new bios chips for 10.00 shipped already flashed. Thats a good price.

Might just order an extra chip for my mb.
